April 7th, 2009 is an unforgetable day for Ryan.
The 2 kids had refused to go to bed around 11 pm, though they have already brushed their teeth, changed into their pajama already. They insisted that Mommy need to sleep with them. Mommy was not yet ready, so they were running around and playing. Then there was a loud "bang"! When Mommy rushed to the scene, there was a stream of blood coming down Ryan's forehead, to his nose, to his mouth! Not a few drops, but flow of blood!!!
Mommy's heart nearly stopped, Mommy screamed and startled Ryan. He stopped crying and Mommy hurriedly carried him to the sofa, made him lay straight, got some tissue, then a clean towel to wipe off the blood and pressed on the wound. The wound was vertical and right in the middle of the forehead, about 2 cm long. It was not a simple cut, but a open wound with visible flesh. Mommy knew that he has to be taken to the hospital and most certainly would need stitches.
(Yes, it is diaper. He still wears diaper when sleeping)
Daddy was in the shower, but all of us hurried up to rush to the hospital. Thomas was crying and kept saying that he was sorry, that he was the one to push Ryan to bump into the corner of the door frame. He repeatedly said, "mama, sorry, I didn't mean it", "Didi, sorry!" and on the car, he was whsipering to himself, praying all the way, "Please, please, I hope Ryan is ok".
The doctor said that we have 3 choices, one is to suture him up on the spot, but it will not be as pretty or professtional as the cosmetic surgeons, the second is to go home after they cleaned the wound and come back the second morning to have the cosmetic surgeon to do it, it will be much prettier and may not leave a big a scar, but with kids his age, he will need to go into operation room with possibly full body anesthesia since it will take a much longer time for the suture; the third option is to go to another hospital which has cosmetic surgeon in the emergency room staff (but still need if he/she was on duty last night).
Tunhua Grandma suggested the second option for "beauty" purpose as not to leave too big a scar on Ryan's pretty face. AGong and AMa thought that we should take the first option since can always do cosmetic surgery to improve the look later. Going home with a open wound is just not a good idea, what if he toss and turn at night and tear the wound again?
The doctor sew his wound up with 6 stitches after local/area anesthesia. Ryan was so brave, he did not cry throughout the whole ordeal except for the first 5 seconds at home!!! Not even when the doctor gave him local anesthesia or when he was waiting for the doctor to come see him or on the way to the hospital.

By the time everything was done, it was 1:30 am and Thomas already fell asleep on the chair inside emergency ward. Ryan also fell asleep in the middle of the "little operation". Daddy and Mommy carried the 2 brotherss back to the car, back home, back upstairs home......

Ryan's forehead is now ugly. Will take him back to the hospital Monday morning to remove the suture and see what have to be done to improve the "look".

Ryan is such a brave boy. Tell him Aunty Yvonne is very proud of him. His wound looks quite long especially on a boy his size. It sure doesn't look like only 2cm. It is a little scary to watch him still run around so fast. I hope there will not be too big of a scar on his forehead. Oh hey....it's kinda like Harry Potter! ;P
Ryan is a special boy, and he sure is one of the ones sent by "Up There" to carry out the master plan. After he heard his mom screaming and worrying to take care of him, he calmed down and said it didn't hurt so not to apprehend his mom even more. He calmly watch this. Now, he looks as though he has a third eye, like a Boddhisatva...
Good call to fix Ryan up right away. The scar makes him look kind of manly and mysterious. I am sure it will help him with the girls when he grows up. He just has to tell an interesting story about it, not "my brother pushed me into a door frame" ;)
Took him to remove the suture this afternoon (4/16). Now just need to put on the medical tape for 3 to 6 months until the scar recovers.
